Information Literacy Training from the Newsam Library

In 2005, UNESCO proclaimed,

Information literacy and lifelong learning are the beacons of the Information Society, illuminating the courses to development, prosperity and freedom.Information Literacy lies at the core of lifelong learning. It empowers people in all walks of life to seek, evaluate, use and create information effectively to achieve their personal, social, occupational and educational goals. It is a basic human right in a digital world and promotes social inclusion of all nations.

On Monday September 8th, we celebrated Information Literacy Day (which incidentally, has been celebrated around the world since 1966) by publicising the Information Literacy (IL) sessions we provide to our students at the IOE. Our IL co-ordinator, Barbara Sakarya, created this short video to demonstrate a little of what is covered in our workshops and what our students think of the training and the support materials:

If you would like our expert team of librarians to provide a workshop to your students to help them get started on using the IOE’s wonderful Newsam Library and Archives, please contact the IL team at informationlitearcy@ioe.ac.uk   More information on what we do is available at http://libguides.ioe.ac.uk/informationliteracy
