British Library’s Social Welfare Portal launched

I was very pleased to be invited to the soft launch of the British Library’s new Social Welfare Portal. Apart from being a very nice occasion, it was great to see a demo of the portal. It’s taken a lot of work by the BL to bring it all together, but the end result looks good. It is a freely accessible collection of research on all aspects of social welfare in the UK and overseas, with a particular emphasis on policy development, inplementation and evaluation. It covers electronic publications, journal articles and reports and also links in with the BL’s extensive print holdings in this subject area. The content is being added to on a daily basis, and it offers a quick and easy way to keep up to date with developements in the Social welfare sector. I’m sure it will be extremely useful for staff and students of the IOE. The BL are keen for feedback from users, and it will be formally launched in December. Now is the time to make your views count.
