Europe on Screen

Launched in the UK last Friday, an EU-funded project now provides access to Europe’s television heritage. EUscreen aims to promote the use of television content to explore Europe’s rich and diverse cultural history.

Ultimately there will be access to over 30,000 items of programme content and information, and by developing a number of interactive and dynamic links with Europeana, the European cultural collections hub, it should prove valuable to a wide range of educational and recreational users.

Currently the material available comes largely from ‘mainland’ Europe, although our neighbour Ireland is well represented by RTE, the Irish national broadcaster. An intriguing aspect of the site is the opportunity to view Britain through the perspective of broadcasters from elsewhere.
